Binance is the largest cryptocurrency exchange but the global version isn’t available for US citizens. Because of regulatory compliance issues and consumer protection, American users can only access binance.us.

Luckily, you can still access the full version of the platform using a VPN. It changes your IP address to another country’s once you connect, letting you access Binance without issues.

One thing to note is that while using a VPN to access Binance is legal, it goes against the platform’s terms and conditions. There’s a slight chance that your account may be suspended. However, during my tests, I found 5 providers that slipped unnoticed.

In this article, I’ve curated a list of the 5 best VPNs for Binance that you can use to spoof your location and safely access it if it’s illegal or restricted in your country.

Their advanced kill switch also worked flawlessly when I reviewed its functionality. The VPN blocks malware and trackers and lets you enable the multi-hop feature for an additional layer of encryption.

You can ensure no one detects you using Binance by getting a dedicated IP which comes at an additional fee. Private Internet Access has a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 3-year package that you can get from $2.03 per month.

Methodology: how I chose Binance VPNs

I researched a few dozen reliable VPNs, starting from testing their Binance access capabilities. I took each VPN and tested which servers allowed unblocking the full version of Binance. Then, I ranked the providers based on the following criteria:

  1. Binance access test results – all of the apps on my list successfully accessed Binance with the servers I tested.
  2. Server network – I took into consideration the server locations of each provider. I only added VPNs that guaranteed many server locations where Binance is available.
  3. Security features – the more security features your VPN has, the more options you have to secure your online traffic and keep your data protected while you’re using Binance. I looked at features like multi-hop, kill switch that ensures no leaks, dedicated IP address, and more.
  4. Speed – having a fast connection is crucial so you can place your trades and get out of them at the right time. All of the VPNs on this list ensure no noticeable speed drops.
  5. Price – I evaluated the price to value ratio of each VPN. I include options for every budget, costing as little as $2.19 per month.

How to access Binance in the US

Using a VPN to access Binance in the US involves just a few steps. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Pick a VPN from my list of best VPNs for Binance. I recommend ExpressVPN.
  2. Download and install your preferred VPN.Download ExpressVPN
  3. Connect to a server in a region where Binance isn’t restricted, like Italy or France.Connect to a server on ExpressVPN
  4. Sign up on Binance and start trading!Trade on Binance with ExpressVPN

Why is Binance not available in the USA?

Binance was banned in the US due to a lack of regulatory compliance and using security measures unapproved by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Plus, in 2019, Binance was scrutinized by the US government for money laundering and tax fraud.

So, Binance stopped accepting American users and found a separate company called Binance.us in partnership with FinCEN-registered BAM Trading Services. However, this version is way more restricted, giving you less than half crypto options compared to the full version.

It’s also worth noting that Binance.US isn’t available in 16 states due to government restrictions. Here are the states where it’s currently banned:

Alaska, American Samoa, Connecticut, Georgia, Guam, Maine, Northern Mariana Islands, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Vermont, and Washington.

Difference between Binance and Binance.us

Binance.US is a stripped down version of Binance. It offers around 150 cryptocurrencies, which is a lot fewer than the number you’ll see on Binance. The full version of the site offers over 500 cryptocurrencies.

The US version of the company is a separate entity and it's not run by the same people who run Binance. Since Binance is an international company, it has a much larger liquidity pool.

The US version of the site is great for small traders, but if you’re trading on a large scale in the US, then I recommend using a different crypto exchange.

Where else is Binance banned?

Currently, Binance is banned in the following countries: Canada, Iran, the United States, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Germany, and China.

Please note that Binance availability often changes due to law and regulation changes. For example, while the platform was not allowed before, Binance received regulatory approval in Italy in 2022.

In Germany, the company has received multiple warnings that it’s not registered to run its operations in the country, but nothing has happened so far.

Why do you need a VPN for Binance?

A VPN routes your connection through a server that’s based in a different region, letting you access Binance no matter where you are.

To put it simply, it hides your IP address and gives you one from another country. This makes it look like you’re coming to the site from a different location, letting you easily use Binance at any time.

For example, if you’re based in the US, you’ll receive the following message: “Binance.com is unavailable in your country or region.”

Binance unavailable in the US

However, if you connect to a server in Switzerland or any other country where the platform is available, you’ll gain access to the site without any serious repercussions.

VPNs also encrypt your data, sometimes in multiple layers, which ensures security and protects your information from getting leaked. Some VPNs also give you the option to get a dedicated IP address for an additional fee which is safer than a shared one. A dedicated IP address is much harder for a site to detect since it’s only being used by you.

Can I use a free VPN for Binance?

You can use a free VPN for Binance but be careful of unreliable services that could infect your device with malware. Instead, opt for trustworthy free VPNs that are limited but work as intended.

My top free VPN recommendation is Proton VPN. It has servers in 5 countries, including Poland and Romania. The disadvantage is that you can’t choose the server you connect to, so your only option is to reconnect until you get the one you want.

If you want to save money, I recommend trying a premium VPN, like ExpressVPN, and taking advantage of its 30-day money-back guarantee. This way, you can try out if it works with Binance yourself without any financial commitment.
